arMod - Modified Akai/Roberts Preamp

The new arMod with new face plate and rear case.

The BE-arMod has additional switches for polarity and input impedance, and a completely new designed face plate that fits over the existing one. This is a production model almost completed, waiting for its rack mounting holes to be cut. Specifications coming soon.

We've rewired the EF86 first stage in a classic '50s design for great microphone amplification and swapped out the 12AD7 for a 12AY7 in the second stage, where the instrument input is. This allows for better dynamics with electric guitar and bass, similar to vintage guitar amp circuits.

NOTE that Akai and Roberts used different meters on various models of their tape deck preamps. What is shown is a later model version. Some are more vintage looking, some are smaller and more plain. We have about 20 units to choose from at this time, check with us if you're looking for a specific meter on the units you order. Once these are gone, we will be making new units from scratch, using the same meters as the BE-62 Mixer.

The rear case includes the power connection with master switch, xlr mic input, balanced line output, and 8 ohm speaker output. There is also an accessible fuse holder that will mount next to the power switch. We'll up date the photo showing the stock dark green colour soon.

The top of the case includes vents, similar on the bottom. The 6BQ5 sits too high to be completely closed, so we've designed a cool vent specially for it!

The Busby arMod includes our own custom RCA style knobs, manufactured in house (literally!).

We make use of the existing chassis by adding on a custom case that provides coverage where the Akai/Roberts does not. This provides safety for the use and the internal parts.
NOTE - We no longer supply the units under the name TiMod or TiMod2009.
 
Our current conversions include new Cinemag input xfmr, rebuilt EF86 first stage and output section with Cinemag output xfmr in addition to the regular speaker output @ 8 ohms. We use Cinemag transformers on all of our products. Jensen, Sowter, Lundahl and others are available by special order.
We have designed a new face plate for 19" rack mounting that fits over the existing one, making the modified preamp a great looking addition to your rack!
